Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take...but by the moments that take our breath away

Something new for me.....
Most of you know that I work at Ogden Regional Medical Center. And some of you may know that the Cancer Relay is coming up in June. The hospital is trying to raise money to donate to the cancer research fund. So each unit is making a basket and we will raffel the baskets off and the proceeds from them will be donated. This is especially important to our unit because we have been personally effected with cancer recentley. Kay, a nurse on our unit, has just taken a leave of absence to be with her son who is dying of cancer. He has two small children, a boy and a girl 4 and 7, who also lost their mother to cancer about 4 years ago. Whats worse is the children themselves are showing signs of cancer. So our unit is trying to put together a slam dunk basket to raise a lot of money to donate. We are also putting together a basket for each child. Yesterday Shelley and myself made calls to all the radio station in Utah to try to score Hannah Montana, Stadium of Fire tickets to put in the basket for raffel. I don't think we will score those, everyone said they had tickets, but not for that. We were quite discouraged. So I started making calls to local businesses, hoping for some gift cards. My spirits were quickly raised. Everyone I talked to was so happy to donate, The Tree House Museum, Newgate Mall, Dinosaur Park, Speed Street, Riverside Golf Course, Olive Garden were on the for sure list. And there were many maybe's, we need to speak with the general manager. It was so cool to see how people were so willing to help. Most all of the businesses donated not only to the raffel basket but to the baskets for the kids as well. It made me feel so good to get out of myself and do something for someone else. So now for my shameless plug.....If anyone can think of or know anyone willing to help us out it would be so greatly appreciated, please contact me. We are pressed for time, at least for the raffel basket, which needs to be turned in to our human resources by Wednesday, April 23.
